I did a 6 of the best, 3 of the rest rock guitarists some while ago and that showed there was much interest of the genre on this forum so here are my 6 of the best with 3 of the rest live rock albums.

This by the way was a really difficult task as I had almost 25 in my list of favourites to whittle down to just 9 but I think I have it right. All these albums are regulars on those evenings I choose to switch the goggle box off, lay down the book and just enjoy the music over a beer or two.

In no particular order here they are...

Six of the Best:

Quo Live (double 1976)

Slade Alive (1972)

Santana Lotus (triple 1974)

Zeppelin Song Remains the Same (double 1976)

ZZ Top Live in Texas (DVD version 2008)

Joe Bonamassa Live in the Albert Hall (DVD version 2010)

Three of the Rest:

Stevie Ray Vaughn Live in Austin, Texas (1995)

Fleetwood Mac Live (double 1980)

Gary Moore Live at Montreaux (various years)

I really wanted to squeeze in Santana's 'IV Live at the House of Blues' but had no room ;)

So guys, dust off the vinyl or CD jewel case and list your favourite live rock albums and let's compare notes :col:

Regards,

Jay.

Boy, that is a hard one. 1. Jethro Tull - Bursting Out 2. Joe Cocker- Mad Dogs and Englishmen 3. Genesis- Seconds Out 4. Gordon Lightfoot-Live at Reno 5. Fleetwood Mac-Live Double 6. Yes-one of their many Live albums. Honorable mention 1. Three Dog Night-Captured Live at the Forum, 2.The Band-The Last Waltz 3. Eric Clapton-Just One Night. I am sure I have missed some of my favorites. Ah, just remembered Dire Straits-On The Night. Thanks for recharging my memory of such great music.

Six:

Kansas - Two For The Show - especially the expanded CD release which amounts to a 4LP set. Original lineup in their prime. For me this would always be top of the list. Incredible musicianship, and Walsh's voice at its peak. The crowning jewel of the set for me is Journey From Mariabronn.

Elton John - Here And There - expanded double version. Elton and band in their prime...what more is there to say.

Bob Dylan - Rolling Thunder Revue, the 1975 live recordings box set. Documenting the historic, mythical tour.

Pink Floyd - The Wall Live - the masterpiece live in its entirety.

Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense - on DVD...must watch as well to truly appreciate how good this is.

Allman Brothers Band at Fillmore East

And three:

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - live anthology.

Jackson Browne - Running on Empty

Warren Zevon - Stand in the Fire.
