I would agree with the guess that the pitch of the sirens has changed. Funny occurrence: I live very near some watershed property (deep woods). Every now and then at night you will hear a lone coyote howl a call that it caught something .... and every dog in the area gets hyterical with barking ... like they are all tough guys ... and then.... the pack of 12-14 howl back ... and dead silence ... like you could hear a pin drop ! To me, its funny every single time !! rotf:ROFLMAO:

I just did a little research online. The consensus is, that it's all about the breed. Some breeds howl and react to certain sounds, while others don't.
Interesting I thought it had more to do with the sirens of today, but apparently not.

If I were a dog, I'd howl at the moon when it is full. I'll remember that for my next life, just in case. Does a person return as a dog because one has been good or because one has been bad? Can a dog be a bodhisattva?

Our dogs don't bark or bowl until something comes close enough to our house. We rarely hear police car going by, but few ambulances going by didn't cause too much reactions. On the other hand, wild turkey walking on our yard will cause rather serious barking.

My dear old Poppy (border collie) used to bark like crazy upon hearing the 'toot toot' of the hunting horn.

We used to live on a farm where my missus (owner of said farm) had explicitly barred the local hunt from her land.

However they often ignored that and sent their hounds onto her land....with the horn going on and Poppy barking like mad.....what a racket!

Regards,

Jay.

My pups perk up at the sound of gunfire - and the only gunfire they’ve ever heard is from hunters, lol, not in the neighborhood. Otherwise, one takes special interest in anything different but rarely barks and never at sirens, more like squirrels or rabbits, and the other is 15 and he’s too “chill” to show anything gets him going.
