I bought a Missouri Meerschaum at a Missouri convenience store and a pouch of Sir Walter, and

it was entirely stale, though the package wasn't dusty or faded. However, I do like an OTC for

a change of pace. Kind of like a hotdog stand hot dog a few times a year. I have enjoyed

Borkum Riff Bourbon, Granger, Prince Albert and some others. Then when I go back to some

less doctored, more refined plain or blend, I know what I'm paying for. When OTC is good,

it's a nice change.

teufelhund, thanks for the recommendation. I happened to have a pouch of Captain Black White on

hand, unopened, which I bought at a nice discount with a coupon I received when I was sent a free

sample of Five Brothers, which I highly recommend. FB is bedrock tobacco, a strong, short smoke.

Captain Black catches a lot of flack, but I'll try it. It's not Dunhill M 965, or any of the other terrific

blends or unblended tobaccos. Still, when OTC's are good, they provide a worthy change of pace.

Smoked SWR (regular) in college and smoke it now as a change up. Good then, good now. Mix it with other tobacs. Good smoke.
But, having said that, it was a bit different tasting in the old days. Not sure what has changed, but the SWR I smoke today is not the same I smoked in another time and place.

I'm actually smoking the SWR aromatic right now. It does give out a good degree of smoke and the room note is pleasant. Like many of you when compared to Price Albert the Prince wins when it comes to flavor but if your in a pinch or looking for a nice everyday smoke during the day while working out in the yard or in the shop I wouldn't pass it up. I am wondering how it would be if I aged it for a couple months to see how the taste goes. It is a pleasant smoke though not a winner but very pleasant.

I may try a pouch of SWR Regular again. The pouch I tried seemed tired and flavorless. However, lately I've echoed joeahearn from his long ago post and really like SWR Aromatic, with a burley base, Virginia as a condiment, and flavored with three liqueurs, a really tasty and tasteful aromatic. i tried a pouch and have cellared a tub.
