Trying some burley blends for the first time and started with what I thought was a natural first step, SWR. It was really enjoyable. Not trying to be critical but is there a "boutique" or fancy blend that is similar to SWR? Anise is the topping?
There is Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic. Not the same as it is Virginia based with a liquor topping. It too is quite good. SWR is my go to morning blend. I haven't found anything that matches SWR.
Fresh SWR has light anise similar to what's in Sutliff's Match Field and Stream, and I find the base tobaccos to have some of the same woody burley flavors.
That would be my recommendation.
Also have you tried SWR Aromatic? Good stuff.
I'd try some of the C&D Burley blends with the flavoring of your choice.
+1 for match field and stream. Its similar to SWR in taste but has more body (and more topping which is might be a negative or a positive depending on your taste)
I think SWR Aromatic is burley based with Virginia as a condiment, flavored with three liqueurs, and it would be a good "elaboration" on the original. There are many good burley based and blends with burley as a condiment in the C&D blends. Other good burley blends are Peterson 3-P and Irish Flake, and in other brands as well. Amphora Burley is good. Match Field and Stream, mentioned in the previous post, is tasty too, as is Edward G. Robinson.
