I've been a lover of single malt scotches since the early 1980s. Used to get Laphroig at Trader Joes in CA for about $13.00 back then. My fave has to be Lagavulin, but alas, almost all single malts are out of my price range now.

For those who aren't afraid of blends, I find that White Horse is totally drinkable, and it has Lagavulin in the blend. Probably not much though, at a price of about $14.50 around here. Still, better than some that cost more, and just having something decent to drink that I can afford makes me happy.

I am a single malt drinker, and my supply always includes several Islay scotches, with Lagavulin 16 at the top of the list, Laphroig and Caol Ila being close runners up. The more peat and kelp, the better!

I've wanted to try White Horse but haven't found it. I definitely prefer single malt, but I am on a college budget, and even $30 is high for something to drink on a regular basis. Good blends would definitely help, but I can only find the more common ones, none of which am I quite a fan of.

So many good single malts out there in all price ranges. But the higher end malts have had price increases that are dramatic in the last year. Like Latakia blends I enjoy Islay Malts in the colder weather. Warmer weather brings my preferences to Burley and Virginia tobaccos and Highland or Speyside Malts. MacCallan, Balvenie, and 15 y.o. Solera are my favorites at the moment but with so many great selections out there that will change. Variety is the spice of life so they say.
