Wow! That's a ridiculous price. I got some last night not knowing what the heck is was (I'm new to this). The tobacconist suggested it when I told him what else I liked, I had never heard of it. 2 oz tin of the flake, $12.95 USD, plus tax.
Nice stuff, but a little wet, I should have let it sit out for a half hour. He did say it was tough to get ahold of sometimes, but I thought the price was reasonable.

I've never had Larry's Blend, but I have had Penzance and never detected a menthol flavor. A latakia blend with menthol sounds horrible!

IMHO, Plum Pudding is nothing like Penzance. It's way better! I agree with Jud that if you're looking for a Lat Bomb, look no further Hermit Tobaccos Captain Earle's Ten Russians.

It was after Smokers Haven, the original, was going out of business or was out of business by then. I do know that Penzance was originally Krumble Kake, but the amount of Latakia was switched around. Krumble Kake has latakia in it, but it is predominately a VA whereas Penzance is predominately Latakia. Part of the Esoterica line was revamped Smokers Haven blends. Pembroke was Cognac, And So To Bed was 20th Anniversary, Margate was Exotique or maybe Best Blend. There were changes to the recipes so they are not identical of course. After Sobranie quite making some of the Smokers Haven blends, I think they went to JF Germain, who, of course, makes the Esoterica line and the current Smokers Haven blends. JF Germain also made Kingfisher for Butera and Irish and University Flake for Peterson. This is all from a pain killer induced memory so correct me if I am incorrect.

While I have not tried it, I have heard a lot people say bulk Lancer Slices is similar to Penzance. As others have said, there can be only one. Everything else is just an imitation.

Dang if that ain't smart. Stripes was the first rated R movie I ever snuck in to. It changed my life forever. Good comedy is hard to come by these days(opening a can of worms) I know. Have you tried the plum pudding yet?

That is the advantage in living Columbus, Ohio where these great tobacconists are/were. I also used to work for Pipes and Pleasures, they have been in business since 1965. The owners were a fountain of knowledge.
Have not tried the Plum Pudding yet, it will be on my next tad order at the end of the month.
