Simple Pleasures

The other day @Choatecav commented on my daily coffee, burley, cob ritual. He was right. I do know that my morning ritual makes me happy. My simple pleasures response has been floating around in my thoughts. Tonight, left over meatloaf is my comforting simple pleasure. Late afternoon, sitting out and watching the evening shadows envelop my yard. This morning, making my wife’s breakfast and her tea, just as she likes it. I am the most fortunate of men. My life is rich with simple pleasures. Thank you @Choatecav. Gratitude for my simple pleasures is a blessing and in itself, a simple pleasure.

For me, a simple pleasure is a luxury, a blessing from God. And they are: a hot shower, sleeping without worries, as you rightly say, having a quiet breakfast alone or with my wife. And for me, one of the simplest and most beautiful pleasures is literature, reading in silence, concentrating as hard as I can. The Bible and the prayers of the Holy Rosary. And of course, like reading, smoking calmly, slowly, contemplatively. This is what being fortunate means to me, among many other simple pleasures, of course. So I agree with you, my dear friend bobpnm. And I am very happy for you.

I'm going to be even simpler with my pleasures. I love hearing the hum of the coffee maker on the stove, the smell. What luxury means to me. It's simply turning on the tap to make a hot cup of tea, or just going to the only stream we have in a village near ours, where I grew up with my grandmother, and sitting there listening to the birds singing, along with the sound of the water. Now in October it's perfect. I can smoke peacefully. Next time I'll take some photos.

Beautiful sentiment, I couldn't agree more. It's the simple things and the moments of peace and quiet that bring the most happiness. There are few things I enjoy more than sitting out on the patio, enjoying the breeze, and watching our animals hang out in the yard.

This thread is fantastic.

As much as every pipe or cigar brings me peace, I recently realized that the simple act of cleaning a pipe is thoroughly cathartic for me. The memory of that smoke, the sweet smell of the burnt tobacco coupled with the diluted grain alcohol, the sight of the cleaned pipe ready for the next journey, the anticipation of my next smoke in it. I find it very calming.
