Hi all, I need advice. I enjoy Half & Half and cannot currently get hold of any where I live. i need to know which tobacco's are similar. I tend to prefer a mild smoke and quite enjoy an aromatic but am open to suggestions.
I have. The problem is that in Australia we are severely limited in the number of places that stock and sell pipe tobacco due to our Draconian laws. I would love to be able to buy from America, you guys have such a wonderful pipe smoking culture and communities. Sadly I am unable to do that. To give you an idea, we pay aproximately $100 (before postage) for 50g of pipe tobacco. In USD I'm paying ABOUT $74 for 50g. It's quite outrageous.Have you considered the possibility of ordering from an e-tailer?
Spot on mate. From memory Mike is in Australia, so buying online from outside Australia is no longer a legal option. Only way to buy blends is to buy locally or from an Australian website.
It's one of the more affordable brands that i really enjoy. I generally need to see what is available. I have also really enjoyed Velvet, C&D Green River Vanilla, Carter Hall, Lanes 1Q1and RLP (I think that's the name), Edward G Robinson was nice. I had an old block of Peterson's plug which was too strong when i first started the pipe but must say it kept me going for two months as a late evening smoke.Weird, I just finished up a pipe full of Half and Half. As far as a substitute... How are you getting your other pipe tobaccos? How is Half and Half specifically excluded?
The most commonly available brand is Borkum Riff Cherry which i go to when i don't have any option. When money's tight i buy Port Royal tobacco for cigarettes, sacrilege but beggars can't always be choosers.I don't know much about Half and Half (Ive never had it). Would any of the Amphora blends get close by any chance.
I reckonAmphora would be a close fit, you're right. Just managed to nab a ouch of Carter Hall.I don't know much about Half and Half (Ive never had it). Would any of the Amphora blends get close by any chance.

The prices are mostly driven by tax. A 'cheap' blend maybe $95 Australian and an 'expensive' blend may be $105. That's why I never really looked at price when I was still able to order online from the US.Ah, didn't realize that he was Aussie! That does complicate the issue, doesn't it?
Peterson Sherlock Holmes is another Virginia/burley blend that I am fond of. Good deal pricier then Velvet or Carter Hall, I would guess.
Not really.Sorry about your troubles my friend. I guess that's our future here as well. Is there a legal amount for a gift to be sent?
The tobacco situation here blows chunks big time. It's one of the more affordable brands that i really enjoy. I generally need to see what is available. So, i guess you could say i move around a bit in terms of brands and find something good in each.
