Lovely pipe and gold band looks cool in my opinion. I just got it today and I haven’t really checked it out properly but the band might be a factory repair or the previous owner might have added it, since I think there is a discrepancy between the date stamps on the band and the wood.

My guess,it's original. It looks like the shank is turned so the band will be flush. Not sure they're take that risk to turn the shank on a cracked piece. Just a guess, looks great! Also,just guessing again, the nomenclature is is perfect position. Without the band I'd think they're move the nomenclature closer to the end of the shank for ease of stamping. They got the end of the stamp right it the curve or the radius where the bowl meets the shank. I know I wouldn't put it there unless I had to and if the band was originally there,you'd have to place it where it is. 2 cents worth

My thoughts exactly but I still have to check the hallmarks, so far I know that they are not the usual 1971 ones

That Hallmark is for 1970, which I think would fit correctly with a 1971 pipe.
