Here are the stampings:Picked up 2 Dunhill Patent Era Pipes this past Saturday for a keen $85.

The Billiard:
Underside stamping: 59 DUNHILL SHELL MADE IN ENGLAND 0 PATENT No 417574/34 (4)
From looking on Pipedia, I think this puts it made around 1950-54.

The Bulldog:
Underside stamping: 48 4 DUNHILL SHELL MADE IN ENGLAND 19 U.S. PATENT 1341418/20
From looking on Pipedia, I think this puts it around 1936? I'm not sure what the 4 next to the 48 refers to, and I didn't see 19 as a date code on pipedia for this patent number.

Nice finds for an excellent price. 1951 on the billiard (based on circled group number, but I could be wrong and it might be 1950) and 1939 on the Bulldog.Here are the stampings:

Hello Mr.TallbutBuxomley, The five figure shape nr. tells me that it is from the 1970's. The number following 'Made in England' will show what year that is exact. (Can't really see from the pic.) Looks like it has been well enjoyed before but... enjoy it! It is a nice old Duhill pipe.Hello all, can any of those with Dunhill knowledge provide any info via the number? Dunhill information seems so deep that I feel somewhat overwhelmed. Any info much appreciated.

Thank you! I used Fiebing's leather dye, and mixed several colors to match the color of the pipe.Looks good! What finish did you use?
Oh lordy. This information gave me the wherewithal to search for a specific 5-digit code. Worse still, to find it. And last night, to part with a sum of money. I will post the outcome in due course.Here some more info and a link to the Dunhill shape chart from pipedia.

As far as I know from my own 5 digit shape nr. pipes I can tell that one can forget the last digit 1.
The 4 digits without that 1 is the more usual 4 digit shape nr. So that is 3401.
3 = Group 3. 4. = Quarter bent tapered mouthpiece. 01 = Apple.
