This is my first Poul Olsen, cant find much on them but it seems folks hold them in high regard. The previous owner smoked the piss out of it.
Happily, the exterior was in pretty good shape, this was more of a rehabilitation than a restoration, the only repair work (if you could call it that) is that the part of the stem which fit into the mortise was about .015" longer than the mortise. I suspect it had never been cleaned - plenty of petrified cake, even in the stem, and once I excavated most of it, I discovered the bones of a small animal in the heel. Contemplated the dishwasher and even the parts washer; however, about an hour and a half with hot water, shank brush, a knife, a dental pick and finally a 3/8" #7 gouge I got her down to almost bare wood and rubber. Gave her about a half-dozen retort treatments and so far she is smelling pristine! Not the prettiest grain in the world but I'm hoping it will turn out to be a great smoker.
