The estate 'bullcaps' I acquired here in Argentina were just advertised as 'pipes'.....not even sure I knew what a bullcap was at the time anyway. I just bought them because I was attracted to the shape straight away. The first is the 'Gordon' Made in England and the second a Made by Hardcastle's 'Argyle'. Both are wonderful smokers.

I’ve seen yours before and love them. I knew you would appear on this thread. That shape has always appealed to me. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for clarifying the shape. I've seen them before and read about them, but I'd forgotten the specs. I kind of like the bulldog and Rhodesian shapes better, but that's me. Fine looking pipes, these.

I think the difference between these old school versions of french Pot, Prince, and Bullcap shapes mostly come down to the height of the bilge. A Pot is cylindrical, the Prince is widest at or near the bottom and tapers up like a squat brandy glass, and the Bullcap has it's widest point at the top or shoulder. Also, a Pot or Prince tends to have a U shaped chamber, while Bullcaps often have pronounced conical chambers, following the outer lines of the bowl.

Very well described.
