I'm using Oxiclean but some part of me questions whether or not the stuff is doing damage in the long run.

When I was still using Oxiclean, I would do the initial oxidation removal with a Magic Eraser and polish with fine grit sandpaper and micromesh. Haven't noticed any adverse effects from the Oxyclean like bleach does.
