Show us (me) your stranger Stanwells

Preferably with the shape numbers or line nomenclature. It will help me further complete the pipedia list of Stanwell shapes and shape numbers.

I'm not sure what you mean by "stranger" Stanwells
But I have this freehand which I bought in the 1970s
It was the first freehand I'd seen, and the first with a plateau rim.
The stem has a crown over the "S"
There is no shape number
The only stamping on the bottom of the shank is :
Stanwell
over Regd no:......
over Handmade in Denmark.


I keep this as a reminder of the things we do when we were young and thought that tie-dyed, ripped, bell-bottomed denim jeans were the epitome of high fashion. Along with platform shoes

Lovely! If information serves correctly, this was made in the 1960s by Poul Hansen, who was originally one of Sixten Ivarsson's pupils, before becoming an accomplished carver in his own right. He would later own The Danish Pipe Shop in Copenhagen, before selling the store to the Nielsen family, who own it to this day.

Yes, the history of Danish pipemakers and institutions is a very tangled Web. And I also love the Danish Pipe Shop. The Nielsens are so lovely and helpful.
