Halfy: that’s the cutest puppy . I absolutely love the first tokutomi and the looong shanked Lars . Nice pipe cabinets in the background.

Alan, the puppy was a son of my dog (Swedish lapphund) and a neighbor's Samoyed... that pic was taken in the pipe store where I bought that Toku bamboo pipe.
This is his dad. I call him "Little White" ...

Been following, and admire all the beautiful surfaces. More weathered-looking crevices shown here than in an Ansel Adams exhibit.
I'm thinking that I prefer the more textured and tactile surfaces on my pipes as opposed to the boring, smooth pipes. A "smooth" is only as good as the grain, the stain, the polish, looks. I'd rather cop a good feel off of one of the above pipes. My favorite so far: That Mathias in the picture that halfy posted. Now, I need one of these. So starts the quest.
Keep them coming.

PLEASE....
Start a thread just like this for rusticated pipes. Hand-carved, Dremel, burrs, wire brushing, hand-rustication, all the finishes that are done with tools, and an explanation as to how the finish was acquired by: staining, buffing, sanding techniques, etc...
Thanks to all with the talent to make pretty pipes with some texture.

Frank,
Mathias Dittmar made about 3-5 pipes in 2017 I guess. So keep close updated on his Facebook and instagram posts. Usually they were gone the moment right after he posted.
And +1 on the sandblast over smooth...particularly I hate "straight grain" pipes, so boring ...

Halfy...
Smoke, ans enjoy that Dittmar for a looooong time, and, in good health! It's a beauty!!
Ditto on snore-inducing, straight-grains. For me, a nice blast/rusticated pipe scratches my itch.
Thanks,

Frank

I received my new Eric Klodt yesterday and smoked it for the first time today. Fantastic craftsmanship inside and out. Eric did an awesome job at the sandblast here, these pictures taken with the ipad don't do it justice.
