This 1893 Peterson 15 arrived yesterday and I completed the first stage of restoration a moment ago - I don't like to touch pipes like this any more than necessary, so I may do nothing more other than building up the stem burn area with black CA glue, getting the oxidation off of the stem stamp, polishing the stem, and coating the inside of the chamber with pipe mud.

But I'll be smoking it tonight.

George and I used to talk fairly often. I've been restoring pipes for many years and have learned a lot from George and others. The restoration was very non-invasive - you can always do more later, but you can't always undo. It looks good, it's smokable, and I can do more later if I want (but I won't).

Fair enough, maybe I wasn’t doing CA right but I prefer the feel/look of the gflex on vulcanite.
Is an awesome pipe regardless!

If you took five pipe repair guys and discussed a problem, you'd get 3 (possibly 5) different products and 2 or 3 different solutions. Even for simple stuff.

I'll add that I normally don't give my suggestions any more, as more often than not, someone will adamantly disagree and insist that their way is the best. I've never understood such thinking, but it's not fun to be on the receiving end of it.

I believe the 'JP' on the silver band of the 1893 above, is for 'John Pittar' of Dublin. I've never seen a maker's mark on a band with Irish Hallmarks. If anyone has any other examples of Petersons with maker's marks, I'd love to see them.
