Picked up this cool cigar box. From what I can find I believe it to be from 1920s-1940s. Made for Petersons NY distributor at the time. “Clear Havana” “In Bound” which is pre embargo tobacco made here in the US. Looks like a Tampa FL cigar maker who received the contract.

I think this a different brand but cool nonetheless.

The second pipe from last week's PAD spree just arrived and I am quite confused to what it is... My best bet is a dunmore meerschaum, but I can't seem to find any info on those being a thing. Also I am sure the tennon is stuck and that's not how they decided to do the stem, right? I figure I get a second opinion before I get handy with some tool...

just purely a guess but I'd say that is the way it should be. Not a bad idea though, it would be a lot less stress on the softer shank when removing the stem. I'm sure some expert here will have a better answer for you. I've not seen anything like that but I like the design.

I don’t know the official answer, but it wouldn’t surprise me if mounting the tenon in the stummel was done intentionally to prevent wearing out the Meerschaum.

If I'm not mistaken that a reverse tennon and would likely wreck the pipe if you tried to remove tennon. I would recommend leaving the tennon in and cleaning as much as you can.

To me, it does give the impression of being similar to the Dunmore line, but I thought they "always" had the "etching" and this one's only got the smooth.
Looks nice, regardless.
That is not the type of junction I have on my Pete meerschaums...

First no such thing as a Dunmore Meerschaum.

Peterson did some wild things with Meers. Shapes are shapes, but they didn’t write on most. It’s like Peterson said how do we screw up future collectors. Ah, I know exactly. lol.

I am pretty sure the sten unglued itself from the tennon and I might have an idea how to test this without damaging anything. Will update when I know more.

I don't know if this helps but I have a 69-71 transitional Kapmeer 999 wherein the stem fits into the wood shank. If yours is the same you would be correct and the tenon got stuck and the stem came off the tenon. But ... the tenon on your meerschaum is thicker than the one on my Kapmeer so ... ???

Thank you for the kapmeer comparison. I am pretty sure you are right. I checked my British kapmeer and referenced another Meer Pete that looks to be from the same series- both have a regular stem and tenon.
BTW you are not a big fan of your 999 Kapmeer right? Right?
