Are they one of the pipes of the year? I have this “shopping list” here and I love those bulldogs and even though I just got two of them I haven’t seen these Huber Pete’s before.View attachment 410956
No but I’m 100% with ya on that bulldog, beautiful pipe. Looks a lot like my 1906 Patent System BD

Peterson XL02 Cobble!

Got the goop out, cleaned out the stem and added some Nording (McClelland) Hunter Pointer I’ve had since ‘21 (older tin I opened then and jarred). A favorite blend I ration carefully.

I really, really like this Cobble - better than the rusticated, which I like as well. This XL02 is a favorite shape. Drilling spot on, no finish transfer, and the look is better in person than I can photograph. I’d love to see this in a barley version. Just feels “right”.

About 1/3 of the way in and smoking effortlessly. Bit is just right for me. Very satisfied!

I grabbed a Cobble too. Same shape. Hopefully it’s as nice as yours.

That looks great.
I checked the chamber dimensions on several of them when first contemplating a purchase, and it seemed to me that most of them had slightly less depth than what I expected.........

Mine was spec'd at 1.58 which seems a little deeper than normal for an XL02, but I haven't measured it myself - got a nice relaxing hour out of it last night, which surprised even me with my raggedy techniques, haha. But I didn't dive into the dimensions in general, just saw one when I enlarged it that looked good enough to order.

It’s going to be a nice pocket pipe. I’ll definitely grab another 03. I really like the finish. Much more gooder than those butt ugly chip n seal they cover with road asphalt.
Too small for me. Though I have a Pete in the "beaver made it" finish, am not that keen on it. Their red over black stains are fine but the all black stain numbers don't do it for me. Do think that in recent years the black stain has looked to caked on.

Alright I do enjoy dating and identifying Petes, but sometimes I just hit a wall…

This is what I am working with and I have been rereading the same 7-8 articles saying it could be a 1899-1970 pipe. Now I have had multiple English and Irish stamped pipes from the later part of this range, go through my hands and this one doesn’t feel similar at all. Do you guys see any indications for very early production date? Also indications proving the opposite would be as important.

Alright what a couple of delivery days for PeteGeek... I went from not being able to find any pre- republic Petes for months, to getting my grubby fingers on 8... Potentially two or three more in transit.

3. System 304 grade 0 the one from yesterday with the Made in england stamp
4. De luxe 9s no hallmarks Made In Ireland Block Stamp

RIGHT SIDE:

2. Killarney 606 made in Ireland
3. Kapmeer 406 made in Great Britain
4. Kapruf 999 made in Ireland block stamp ( as a giant 999 fan this one is the one I am the most excited about, since it's the earlier"John Bull" 999 shape)
Here is how it compares to a 999 Kapruf from the 60s or 70s
