Sometimes you need something longer than your sidearm.
Actually I may have done pretty well on this one. I just watched it on a whim, and was on the phone with IT at work when I got the auction ending notification. Decided to bid $1.50 more than top bid and landed it for $.50 more: $56
Now looking into it, it’s a Silver Mounted Army 102, with larger hallmarks than ones I can find recently posted (~5yrs), and the stain looks lighter.
Not being stamped “Sterling” and hallmarked, it may have originated outside the US?
I’ve seen Silver Army pipes listed as acrylic and vulcanite, my fingers are crossed it’s the latter.
More will be revealed when I get it, but I’m kinda glad I pulled the trigger on it. It’s only <1/2” longer than my Short Army.

Peterson Dracula, yeah this newb broke the stem, luckily had an old one laying around that fits. Need to have another acrylic made for it or figure out how to fix the one I have.
Where did the break on the original stem happen? Does it just need a new tenon? If you need a whole new stem in the same style you can try reaching out to Peterson directly.

The Silver Mounted Army 102 arrived, and I’m very happy with it.
If it’s been smoked it wasn’t even a full bowl, cleaner through stem was greyish-black (not brownish) for about1/2”, and the mortise(?) looks dry and clean. There was a few scraps of tobacco on chamber wall, but didn’t looked burnt.
Hallmark looks to be an I so I believe that’s 2019.
Edit to add: The new P-lip on the Short Army series is an work of art with a large chamfer at the front of a beautifully tapered airway up to button, compared to the acrylic stem on the SMA that the tenon looks as artfully done as the generic unfinished stems I’ve picked up to replace an old Dane freehand in my collection.

A special pipe. This one used to belong to a friend of mine who’s sadly no longer with us. Breaking it in with some Rich Dark Honeydew & thinking he’d be tickled pink to know I’d bought one of his old pipes.
RIP Jörgen.

It's a gorgeous pipe. Enjoy in good health. The memories associated with the pipe make it all the more special.
