I'm a Sixten Ivarsson pipe fan, which, since I have no intention of spending $$$$ on a pipe, means Stanwell or Stanwell's sub-grades. There's something almost gaudy and 'blingy' about most high end Nørding pipes I see online. I guess you can say I like Danish free-form, as long as it falls on the conservative English side of things (now with Plateaux!)
I do own exactly one lightly smoked Nørding that caught my eye. It's unstamped and ungraded. Circa 1989/1990. It's my understanding that Erik Nørding personally made these very limited edition pipes.
I unfortunately don't have any more information than that on it. I don't even know how many were made or when. (Edit: I do know there were three models, or perhaps finishes) Aside from knowing it was to commemorate his making the world record's largest pipe (I believe it's currently exhibited in a museum in Copenhagen).
I suspect if I knew more about it, it would be a special occasion pipe, rather than an "I really ought to save this for special occasions" pipe; which is not the same thing at all.
. If it hadn't been smoked already, I'm not sure I could bring myself to smoke it, and that would be a tragedy. Pipes ought to be smoked.
