@verporchting: Funny you should mention that since he sold me one as well along with an unpublished manuscript by Oscar Wild entitled 'Stretching Your Friends. A Complete Guide to Putting Large Things in Small Holes' apparently 'Big Bouncing Butch' Oscar dedicated the book to him when they were lovers! :eek:

Not exactly naval treen, but more of a souvenir that sailors of the Great White Fleet Purchased when visiting Japan in the early 1900’s.
This is one of several images that were available to sailors. The original George Washington Company catalogue described this piece as "Embroidered with Silk and pure Gold Thread on the best quality Satin. Other examples included actual ships along with inserted photos of the sailor and notables of the time such as Admiral Dewey.

if you could inspect the crew close up, you would see their eyes are of Asian character.
