Thanks that is the most info I've gotten on it. It says on the case Genuine Turkish Block-Meerschaum.

My Storient #11 based on Sixten Ivarsson's design copied and made famous by Stanwell. This is my first meerschaum and definately not my last. Meer is a wonderful pipe material. Blends really shine and I've had a blast re-discovering my favorites.

I would love to see a smooth finished pipe with a good aged color. Does anyone have one of those?

@photoman -You can kind of see it on keith's African block meers. The smooth ones remind me of the old glazed coffee cups with the darker color up at the rim and then fades lighter toward the bottom of the bowl. It'll take me a few years to get there though.

The smooth one I posted is starting to get some color. It was used when I bought it, but it had hardly any color. Its starting to get very very light creamish brown.

I wasn't sure if african meer was brown originally or not. Now is that from the tobacco being absorbed or from handling it?

It's from the tars in the smoke. I don't think handling it does anything towards coloring it. In fact, some people say to wear gloves or hold it by the stem so that you don't hinder the coloring. Personally, I just wash my hands first, and then hold it normal.

I wasn't sure if african meer was brown originally or not.

African meers are often precolored. Mine is. I don't know why, but it seems that I see more African meers that are precolored then Turkish meers

Thanks photoman... It helps being retired with plenty of time for searching and

digging. This one was on eBay and I got it at a very decent price. I was surprised

I wasn't out bid.
