I just picked up this LHS Certified Purex #14 for my LHS collection and was curious if anyone else has come across one with the red, white and blue dots on top of the shank. I know they supplied a large number of pipes to the troops during WW2 and thought maybe this was some type of commemorative pipe put out after WW2. Any info would be much appreciated....

Just found one in an antique shop here in Anchorage today. An Ultra Fine shape 54 Zulu, meer lined with 14K gold band. Needs some serious cleaning up, particularly the chamber, but we'll see how it goes.

I have a box of pipes that I bought to use as "training aides". I didn't want to practice restoration techniques on my Petersons or Vauens so I bought old dirty pipes at yard sales and antique stores and put them in a box. I had a bunch of orphaned stems and bowls that helped me learn and feel comfortable working on my nicer pipes. I'd never really looked at what was in the box. Recently I pulled out a nice Kaywoodie 12B that has become a regular in my rotation. Last weekend I pulled this out. It was grungy, tarnished and the stem was multi colored. I cleaned the bowl then filled it with salt / alcohol overnight and soaked the stem in Oxiclean. I spent a few minutes buffing and waxing to get to this point. I think I'll spend some more time on the stem, but I'm going to smoke it first. The only markings are on the bottom "Sterncrest LHS Imported Briar" and " Sterling Silver LHS on the band. I have no idea as to age or model number.

So, CERTIFIED LHS PUREX in the diamond on the shank would be post 1945? And what's the difference on the dating if the diamond is silver on the stem as well? Thanks in advance guys.

I don't own an LHS but I want one!

@Mike

I must have missed your reply. Nice work on the resto. That's the first I've seen of that shape too.
@Retro

Great score. Love that shape. If memory serves correct, the Silver Circle carries a 1924 patent date. LHS had removable stingers on most pipes. I take them out. I like a wide draw. My Sterncrest's are some of my favorite smokers. Push stem/stinger free.
Daniel I wanted to know this about lhs stingers so ty. This Purex Preferred stinger I have looks removable , but wasn't sure and didn't want to break it. Does this look like a removable one? Here's a pic. It also is ever so slightly skewered off center which could be another sign, but it's very slight.20250502_130533.jpg

Just got a box of pipes I bought from a guy in CO. Most were old and ODD pipes... probably some historic value to some and I probably left behind a couple that I shoulda grabbed... at the end I convinced him to toss in this LHS Purex Superfine. Having this stamping my understanding is it's pre-war. But I have no other info on it yet and have not yet looked into it. Very nice grain under the grime I think. It will go in the ever-growing pile of 'to be restored', but I thought I'd post a sneak-peak.

Am so happy that I snagged a LHS Cavalier. This will be a nice companion to my Weber. Screenshot_20250806_160430_eBay.jpg This has been a major want for me, and now my 2nd LHS.

I've still never smoked my Purex bullcap 🤣😂
