This is another pipe that I just couldnt pass up becuase of the price. Its an estate Flame Grain A. It had a couple of annoying scratches on the shank and less noticable a couple of really tiny dings (you had to really look for them.

In the original ad for the pipe it looked really red...that dated red color. I fully expected to have to refinish the whole pipe but for the money I didnt care. It got here and the color was really nice. So I stripped the wax, steamed out all the damage and rewaxed it. I fired it up but it was ghosted with something unpleasant so I dumped it and now Im deghosting. Im starting with wet coffee grounds. If that doesnt work I will get some drinking alcohol. I dont know if they sell everclear types of things here.

I find Kai's work a little too "woody" for but the bulldog being shown above is true winner. I think Tonni has much more eloquent work than Kai does.

My 4th from Kai (skipping #3 for now)

Another little dink, this time from Smokingpipes

Original posting

Looking at the measurements you might not think it would smoke for an hour...

Ebonite stem, thin ring made from horn (don't get these wet)

"Just" a VVVV grade, I think the grain is plenty nice. And honestly they're all built the same, at least as far as I can tell

Re-discovering a pipe can be more satisfying than the original feelings toward it. Good things come to those who wait..

Here's mine. It's a bit of a weird one but I like it.

That IS truly weird. And I like it too, looks to be well suited to hanging from the jaw. Cool.

I have two of his pipes that I purchased from Steve Monjour 10 or 15 years ago. Gifted one to my son. Love the other. I'm awful about photos, sorry, I probably can't take a good picture and don't have the time anyhow. But...I'll try to take some pics because they are unique pipes.

I'd not hesitate to get another if I were on the market. Peter Heeschen is more represented in my collection but Kai is a very solid top tier Dane carver.

I've had my newest Kai in my wishlist for a long time- since summer I think.

I took advantage of the Black Friday discount at SPC to get it.

Unfortunately, I'm also getting the "Holiday Special Shipping" option from USPS. Under normal circumstances it would have arrived this past Thursday.

It was scheduled to arrive today, Saturday, but not looking likely according to tracking.
Maybe Monday..?

Ah well. Stay tuned.

Looking forward to seeing what you've got inbound!

I came very close to adding another myself

My tobacco and pipe cleaners order is taking a little extra time too. They must have been inundated...

Yeah I placed the order Monday morning. (Usually with SPC, it'll be out the door that afternoon and in my hands two days later.)
It took two days to get shipped out, and almost 3 to leave South Carolina.

December just isn't the month to expect quick shipments lol.

The pipe itself may not LOOK all that impressive to most people- it's just a straight billiard (JoD B Cross Grain), but the numbers are magic to my eyes.
It weighs 14 grams!
