Here's my Dad's old cob. I estimate it is about 60 years old. I did a deep clean on it because it was pretty sour. Cake removed, scrub internals, polish that brass ring a bit, and get the oxidation off the stem was enough to get a sweet smoking pipe. Enjoying a bowl of semois!

I really enjoy smoking cob pipes and I also enjoy modifying them in some way. Over the past few years I done a couple that I thought really turned out well. The one below is one of those. Finished it off a few weeks back and it smoked well.

Forgive me if this isn't the right place for this question. I'm a brand new piper. My first pipe is a MM Legend and I just bought a MacArthur Cob. I love it. Not sure I can explain it but it smokes the best of my (small sampling) pipes. Does anyone make a stand specific to the MacArthur? It doesn't fit in a normal stand and hard to balance standing on its own. I'd hate for it to get damaged falling over. Thanks!

I got this MM estate at an antiques shop, I traded a briar I didn't smoke anymore (I never liked the shape) for it. No idea what model or year it is, but the shank doesn't stick out into the bowl like the modern ones do and I like that the stem has wider mouthpiece. The chamber is fairly narrow so I'll probably use this for VAs often20250202_233238.jpg

I used to smoke cobs way more often than I have the past few years. Nowadays it's just my driving around pipe.
Looking at these photos make me miss them.
I have a hankering to pick up a few now.
