Wow, those are unbelievable. They look like they're straight out of H.P. Lovecraft's universe.

None here. 2K would buy most of my collection as new pipes. However, when I see those listed online,

I always take a look. Many seem hard to differentiate from, say, an $850 pipe. Some are done for

special occasions by some of the major pipe companies or carvers. I like the ones with rare materials,

mastadon tusks, exotic metals, even jewels. I'm not sure I'd want to own even the $850 pipes. I like

to feel I can always grab a pipe and bring it along, not keep it in a safe deposit box or hidden in the

woodwork. My "best" pipe was listed at $200 plus marked down substantially. It's a lovely smoker,

but I have several bought in the $80 range, and a few in the $50 range that smoke as well. I think the

$2K pipes bring with them the aesthetic boost, like the joy people must get wearing a $5K suit or

driving a $200K car, beyond the purpose and use of the material object.

This is a hell of a pipe, but isn't going to make the tobacco taste any better. Well maybe a little better

I don't own any pipes that are worth over $150. Someday I want to make the leap. I admire Danish style pipes and would like to purchase a nice estate straight-grain.

Most I ever paid for a pipe was $200. It was a Dunhill in tremendously good shape...
But I had never been taught what the Dunhill size groups meant...
So I now own a tiny Group 2 Dunny in great shape.
Lessons you learn starting out.

Group 1-3 are my favorites, I bite the bullet on larger on occasion but my largest Dunhill is a 4 and I have a couple of 2' and a 1, I'm sure your group 2 Dunhill is a fine smoker, enjoy!

Hell, I'd trade my group 3-4 Charatan Special or my group 4-5 Barling's make for a group 2 Dunhill. You learn the value of the pipe size you like by trying them out. Live and learn so to speak. BTW, my personal favorite of the group eaglerico posted is the third down on the right. Even surprised my wife that I would like one of the simplest pipes.

plateauguy,

The bamboo crowd has grown tremendously since that posting I will put together a photo shoot segregating the bamboo's, the Morta's, Strawberry Wood, Olive Wood, Cobs, Meerschaums and briars but a herd thinning will happen first.

While appreciated, I don't think I could spend over $500 for a pipe. Most of my collection is in that range and I've been very pleased.
Loving the pics guys!

think His forum name is yachtexplorer, and I think his first name is Richard
I believe that is Richard Friedman. I think he is a member of the Vancouver pipe club and has commissioned many pipes from Michael Parks amongst others. He also offers pipe cruises on his yacht.

I don't own any priced more than $460 new. My most expensive pipes are Peterson Hand Made House Pipes and they run between $220 for the rusticated ones to $460 for the Silver-Capped Terracotta ones. I personally see no need to go any higher. But I do have ten of these currently; most are Estates and I purchased them for far less than retail.

My Dunhill British Bulldog cost almost that much. Most of my pipes are in the $500 range. The few I have that cost more than that except the Brit.B ulldog are a disappointment. I don't think you should spend over $700 on a pipe unless you are unusually wealthy.
