That comes out to (on average) 20 Castellos purchased/collected/gathered per year. And probably $100-200 thousand spent (at least). I honestly cannot fathom this.

Do you still own all these Castellos? Where and how do you keep them all?
In the good ol days of the Lira guys would gray market Castello’s for profit. My best Pipe friend and mentor had neighbor kid who was a priest studying in Rome buy a Castello’s retail at Italian pipe shops for half the price Halco was charging and sell them at pipe shows. Most of Bob Hamlin’s PCCA Castello pipes were gray marketed from a shop in Italy. IMO
The Euro pretty much ended that.

UPDATE:
I should have realized this sooner. But the nomenclature is off. The "Made in Cantu" was double stamped, or rolled twice on itself..
Thank you! Great info. I'd love to visit Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego, but not for more than a week or so!
My son is dying to get to Nashville, and finally booked his flight yesterday. (Music drives him, not unusual for those coming to visit.)
Nashville is so much fun. It really is!

another update:

The guys at Pipes2smoke and I had a conversation. We worked out a deal where they refunded a nice junk of the price I paid originally. Now it's officially part of my smoking rotation.

The pipe's first bowl was Orlik Golden Slice. So now it's baptized.
How did it smoke? I'd say it looks like it wouldn't have any hindrance at all.

Must be a Monday morning pipe.... puffy

Seriously, Castello is a premium pipe maker and frankly, I am surprised this one made it all the way through QC and got the "stamps". If it were mine, I would return it for another.
I'was even more surprised after seeing a few White Spot Dunhills drilled like this very Castello, how did they make them ways to reputable British tobacconist who claims he picks them pipes for sale himself , where was the quality control at the factory?Brand new Dunhills cost more than Castello

Have Castellos had precise drilling before, or has their quality control wavered? I sometimes wonder if higher demand causes more pipes to be made, and the assembly line to be rushed. Castello pipes have always been a favorite on Forums and their sales seem to be trending upward. I have a few higher end pipes but no Castellos.

I’ve seen 3 Castello, in the past few months with off centered holes on the bottom of the chamber, and one pipe had an off center chamber hole. Looking down on the pipe the chamber was uneven, it had a thicker wall on one side and a thinner wall on the opposite.

In my quest trying to find good quality Castello pipes, I eventually looked at Tabaccheriacorti, and had a lot of email conversations with Luca at Tabaccheriacorti over these issues with Castello, to find out this seems to happen regularly.

He said it’s the way in which Castello builds their pipes, that causes this issue, where the Danish as an example he explained do things in a different order, so that it’s easier to not run into these issues with Danish carvers.

At least for future purchases to help, Luca says he personally goes to Castello all the time and hand picks the best pipes, so the next time you or anyone is in the market for one, I’d be sure to check with him.
This information is gold.

There are very few B&M tobacconists/pipe merchants in Australia, so we are pretty forced into purchasing online. Inspecting a pipe pre-purchase is often not on the cards, and there is a limited choice.

Knowing a trustworthy online retailer is so important, especially when making an expensive purchase.

Obviously it bothers you, or this would not have been posted. Send it back. If it were me I couldn’t care less.

the question is why does it bother you? If it's cause it just does then by all means send it back. If it's will this pipe work fine, then who gives a flying rodent about
