I was thinking of getting a medium-sized ceramic bowl or jar to hold my "daily use" tobacco, which might hold maybe a half-pound's worth. What do you think? Would it let the tobacco dry out too much? I think some ceramic bowls/jars have plastic gaskets to help seal in freshness, but I would rather try to do without that; I kind of like the rough, grating sound of a ceramic lid being lifted off a ceramic bowl.
