Being in the marines will get you plenty of ARMY training, lol. As an instructor at both the airborne and air assault schools I trained plenty of marines. All joking aside, congrats on your decision to serve your nation. It will change your life and you will come out of basic walking a little taller. Keep your chin up and your head down.

I want to thank you too. I know my freedom came at a huge cost and I'll never forget that. You have my utmost respect. Be safe out there and enjoy a pipe when you can. :)

"And, when the platoon gets in trouble, it's not because somebody screwed up....

It's because it was on the training schedule"
+1 Like I said, mind game.
Everyone is afraid to fail. That's why they will make sure you do. Again and again. The only way to truly fail is to give up. Your muscles will fail. Your emotions will fail. And sometimes you'll be pretty sure your sanity has failed. They will make you squad leader just to smoke you when someone in your squad fucks up. You will watch people crack and you will see grown men cry like babies. Usually it's the guys who go in thinking they are tough and know it all. The guys who make it alright are the ones who take everything as it comes, keep their back straight, STFU and listen.
Other good things to know are don't volunteer information and when you hear an unusual question like "Who here has a driver's license?" or "Which one of you turds knows how to cook?" Let some other idiot answer that. Likely the one who runs his mouth ends up on KP or "driving" a wheelbarrow.
Edit: Oh yeah. And don't do impersonations of your drill instructor. They really hate that.

God bless Gunnar, stay safe where ever you get assigned.

We're down in NC this week, near Camp Lejeune. We were having breakfast this morning and a young PFC Marine came in. My pap (retired SGM, 93 yrs old) talked to him a bit. He had just finished boot camp and was reporting to Lejeune for MOS training. A very well mannered soldier (we bought his breakfast on the way out..), I hope he is also safe.
