Shiny Pipes on EBay. Good or bad?

Just too many bad experiences reported. Buying from them is a crap shoot and in my opinion much of what they offer is over priced. I stay clear of dealing with them.

Before I joined this site, I perused Shiny and concluded the restorations were too brutal for my taste. Barely readable nomenclature does not make for a good antique of any sort. Luckily, I've never had a bad deal on Ebay. Whether it is my familiarity with photography, taste in used pipes, or blind luck, I've never had a bad deal. I have a couple preferred vendors and am not shy about cleaning or minor restoration. Finally, I'm just never in the market for a new or like new pipe, so this particular issue does not come up. I buy dirty, ugly, and abused pipes and give them a slightly better home.

As for getting my phone number, she sent me a screen shot of the Ebay form she had to fill out to get access to my number. She checked the box indicating it was needed to help resolve a dispute. I declined the offer to talk to her on the phone because I wanted a written record of everything that was said.
I've been tempted to publish excerpts from the exchanges. I'm sure a lot of you would find them enlightening and amusing, but I think that might be bad form....at least for now.

Tuold, I've sold about 40 pipes on ebay in the last month, you know, thinning the herd, and in almost every transaction the buyers email and phone number were listed with their address. I had no idea it wasn't common.

But to your other point, I know how nasty "m" can be. Serious issues.

I've met both of them as she is in Austin when the shit-storm happened last year. We as a club spent some time talking to them about repairing their PR image. She was very nice in person, and distraught about her business. Some people on these forums behaved very poorly towards them. BUT... it goes both ways. Here we are again a year later though. I had to remind them that I'm not a representative of these forums.. and the rules of the internet...
