I liked her character, but besides it being terrible to hear that ANYONE has died, I can't say that this hits me hard. What has she been doing all of these years? Or, any of these latest celebrity deaths... I am no heartless beast. It isn't pleasant to hear that anyone has died. But, it is more heart breaking to hear of someone who is in the midst of making things that people are enjoying, like if any actor currently making movies gets stuck down. But, someone whom we haven't heard from in five, ten, more years... My condolences to their family.

We tend to grieve the untimely losses more so than the ones who pass in later their years. I can only hope to make it to 80 and beyond. I applaud her career and her long life and wish her godspeed.

I don't hold celebrities to continue to be major in their careers until death. Actually, many lead productive lives, even more deeply and significantly than when they were in the public eye. Or more to the point, maybe folks are adventuring into their humanity and those of their immediate circle more than they ever could as "stars." Living in public is limiting, and I suspect that the best of life is often lived in private. Moore's life wasn't an easy one, but I wouldn't presume to judge at what point she attained her highest life experience. For all I know, maybe going out the door, as it were. Few pay attention when us non-celebrities pass on; we get only the obit we'll pay to have printed. Maybe, often, more's the pity, so to speak.

And now begins the long slog of "I hate 2017, hasn't it taken enough"??
Last Christmas, we were all saying how amazed we were at the number of famous people dying last year, and I got very interested to know whether this was real or perception, so weeks back I spent several days actually compiling a database of famous people having died (folks whom most every household would have known and with a significant popularity) by month and year back to 1955, the span of my life. It was a lot of work but I was really curious about this. From that I generated graphs and charts, and last year indeed was no joke! More celebrity faces died last year than any of the others, the next closest year was actually 1997, but overall, the 90's was the worst decade for celebrity deaths.

Actually, prior to the late 50's, from there on back what you see at the beginning of the graph seems to have held pretty constant before that.

God knows I'm not a stats guy but you're chart seems to run parallel with television ownership and viewing. It'll be interesting to see what this chart looks like in ten or even twenty years when you incorporate the current generations love/reliance of and on the internet.

Fnord, I predict the 90's was the peak and things have leveled off now and will even be on a slow decline eventually.

It's true, you can't take it with you and neither could Mary, but her estate will continue to "make it" in royalties on re-runs for decades to come -- whomsoever that may be.
