I went to the smoke shop, and saw a meer cigar holder, I've been wanting to get into cigars more so I asked "Can I see the cigar holder?". The lady had no idea what I was talking about, and when I pointed out what I was talking about, she said "No thats a pipe." So I put the cigar I was buying in it and explained that it lets you smoke it all the way down. The funny thing is this shop is cigar and cigarette focused. They have a walk in humidor, They only have Dr. Grabows, and crappy pipes. The only pipe tobacco they have is OTC blends. So it's kind of funny she didn't know it was for cigars. I don't know much about meerschaum, but for $10 I wont be out much if it breaks. The cigar I got was a Quorum Robusto, they're pretty cheap, but I think they're good
Here a picture of the cigar holder. Please excuse the quality, I have to use my camera on my phone

That's a cool find. I didn't even know meerschaum cigar holders existed. It's so disappointing when people that work in a tobacconist are uneducated on the products they sell.

I think I saw some meer cigar holders on some website long ago and far away, but for the life of me I cannot remember what website it was. That is pretty cool looking, and is a good find for only $10. Way to go dude!

Good grab and while puzzling, not a surprising reaction from the shop clerk. I was in a NJ cigar shop the other night and asked about pipe tobacco. They had the requisite Ataldis jar blends (about 10) and while I was looking through them the clerk (who turned out to be the owner) offered he also has screens if I needed any. I started laughing and he looked puzzled. I shared with him pipe smokers don't use paraphernalia in our briar pipes and some folks might be offended if he suggested it. We did have a good chat and he asked a lot of pipe questions, so I'll check back in this shop in a few months.

I haven't smoked a Quorum in a number of years - they used to be pretty decent smokes. Cigars are like pipe tobacco - price is not necessarily related to quality. There's some pretty decent cigars at reasonable prices.

Tsk, tsk mister tobacconist. I've also seen briar and bakelite ones on ebay

They pretty much just sell ciggs, drug paraphernalia, and cigars. They have a guy who knows all about cigars, but he wasn't there.

offered he also has screens if I needed any.

I remember that thread.

@Kevin...
That is one thing that drives me crazy! When you walk into a business and the

employee knows nothing about what they sell, I usually just walk out.

It's like the 18 year old girl you see selling shotguns and Rifles at Walmart with that blank

look on her face.

I Just don't get it.

Great pickup for $10 Uber. That's a mighty ring gauge on it too; normally you see these meer holders in much smaller sizes for cheroots & panatellas. And if you're getting into cigars, check out cigarchronicles.com (the sister site to here) if you haven't already--I've been hanging out there more and have picked up a huge amount of info in a short time--a lot like when I first started frequenting this site. It will help you out a lot in finding cigars that fit your taste and budget--the cigar world can be a bit confusing with all the variety.

Usually, when you smoke a cigar all the down past the label, the flavor is pretty much gone. Cheaper cigars lose their taste about half way down. The best cigar I have in my Humidor right now that I can smoke all the way down to within an inch is El Ray Del Mondo. 6.12x50 Natural or Maduro. Excellent cigars at a great price from JR Cigars.com
I've smoked Hand Rolled cigars for 40 years. But, right now, I'm enjoying my new pipes and sampling different pipe tobaccos. That's the beauty of pipe tobaccos, they all taste different unlike a box of 20 cigars which all taste the same.
Always sip a great cigar. That's when you get the flavor, not the burn. White ash denotes quality of tobacco. Enjoy.
