I'm interested to know what philtpads are and what they're for. I like to keep it simple, so I'm unlikely to buy them, but as part of the vast pipe lore, it's good to know about these. They remind me of Nording's keystones, though those are more about moisture control than coloring. I don't use those either.

Did you look at the photo? Also described what they were for. What information do you think is missing? They fit in the bowl, that's why they're tapered. In a Meer, they accelerate the coloring of the shank (see condorlover's blog). I found they also virtually eliminate pieces of tobacco clogging the draught hole. They help make the smoke cooler and drier.

Based on all the arguing on the water flush thread, I feel compelled to include this disclaimer. To be clear, I don't give a shit if you decide to try these. I don't care if you think they are great or stupid. I'm not even recommending that you try them and I most certainly do not think you're stupid if you don't (okay, given my own positive experience, I at least think you're a little stubborn and hard headed if you don't give them a try, possibly even a bit stupid). This is simply a "sharing thingie" on my part. To further clarify, @BROBS I definitely don't give a shit what you think about these. I would think if you would chew them into little bits and swallow, it might help you pass all that lettuce and other green crap you munch on.
You forgot to tell us how fearful we are. nnnn

Actually they look sort of interesting. Might be worth a try. I was about to ask for a website link because I'm lazy and then I looked at the pic you posted. Oops.

I purchased mine on eBay, just did a search. I think Simon mentioned you can purchase the Meerschaum version from meerschaummarket.com I'm going to get some of those to see if they last longer than the chalk ones.
