Simon/Condorlover was nice enough to give me a 2 of these a couple of weeks ago when we meet in Tampa. I believe they are made of Meerschaum but not sure. If you put them in a bottom of a bowl of a Meer, they will accelerate the coloring process of the shank. As a side benefit, they seem to allow for a cleaner draw, virtually eliminates the issues with the occasional loose piece of tobacco or ash plugging the draught hole. Also seems to provide a drier, cooler smoke. I liked them so much, I ordered 2 packs of 25 through eBay. Cost next to nothing, the shipping was double what the Philtpads cost.

Just sharing this in case someone would be interested. If you have any issues with tongue bite, these could possibly help.

Based on all the arguing on the water flush thread, I feel compelled to include this disclaimer. To be clear, I don't give a shit if you decide to try these. I don't care if you think they are great or stupid. I'm not even recommending that you try them and I most certainly do not think you're stupid if you don't (okay, given my own positive experience, I at least think you're a little stubborn and hard headed if you don't give them a try, possibly even a bit stupid). This is simply a "sharing thingie" on my part. To further clarify, @BROBS I definitely don't give a shit what you think about these. I would think if you would chew them into little bits and swallow, it might help you pass all that lettuce and other green crap you munch on.

From the World Wide Web:

SHARROW PHILTPADS

For those seeking that drier smoke from their pipe, our Sharrow Philtpads are just the product you need. Available in reasonably-priced, boxed quantities, these filters are manufactured using chalk and should be placed in your pipe bowl.

If you want stuff to absorb moisture in the bottom of your bowl you can get about a thousand bowls worth of Activated Carbon for $25: https://www.amazon.com/AQUAPAPA-Activated-Charcoal-Pellets-Aquarium/dp/B01F1QZTQC
(Do wash them in batches before use, the bag will be very dusty.)
This is the same raw material they put in all those fancy 9mm filters.
Aquarium pellets are just a bit larger so they won't fit in a 9mm filter slot very well, but at this price you could fill half your bowl with carbon pellets and still come out way ahead.

Now my feelings are hurt. Is there a “Safe Space” thread that I can go to in order to calm down??? ☹️??

Heck, I though Sharrow Philtpads was going to be a new artisan pipemaker from Norway.
Do you just use them once and toss them, or do you use them till they are gone, or till... Is one bag going to be enough, or do I need a truckload of them? Asking for a friend. puffy

Edit: sorry, I just saw the above response was made as I posted. .
