This sums it up for me. When looking for a pipe I filter on chamber dimensions first and go from there. Coincidentally the majority of my "collection" is bent and for a straight pipe I prefer it long.
Classics look like pipes are supposed to do. A little twist on it can be appreciated but volcanos and all the new shapes just don't look like a pipe to me. But as long as it works, I'm not going to complain 
Rhodesians slightly bent, and Pokers seem to be the thing for me. I just picked up a pot and I may be venturing towards some more of those. I like the larger bowls.
Hi, If I may ask, what exactly is a 'pot' ? ...Is it a billiard shape with a wider diameter and shorter depth ? It seems to me that would produce a greater airflow for some reasons but i have never smoked that shape and am curious if you could explain it to me. Thank you in advance.

I'll add that Peterson has described their 408 shape as a combination of an apple, author, and prince shapes. I have found it a very enjoyable pipe to hold and use.

I like most shapes but not fond of Bulldog/Rhodesians or anything excessively forward canted. Lately though, bowl diameter has mattered most and I've been going with bowls larger than .80" with 7/8" diameter being the sweet spot for me.
Yes, I've seen it around and need to make a change.
