Dry the tobacco, but draw lighter. Smoking too fast and puffing away could make gurgle. Nothing wrong with using pipe cleaner. Take your time and enjoy the process.

So, I had to revisit this thread because I figured out my problem with this pipe. It wasn’t how I smoked, how I packed, or what I was smoking. When I bought the pipe, my local B&M ran cleaner through it. When I got home I just started smoking it. The pipe was saturated with moisture but after letting the pipe sit for 2 weeks, we’re all good now, no gurgling. I noticed this same issue after restoring my antique finds. Live and learn.
