I'm a virtual member of the Kansas City Pipe Club and receive their electronic newsletter on a monthly basis.
Their current newsletter has an article on their semi-famous 7 day pipe collection contest. Our own Dave Shain - Shaintiques - submitted a lovely burner and, if you drill down through the pdf, you can see that he was up against some pretty amazing competition.

Dave, you did good, man, and you were in great company. I'd be proud to own one of your pipes some day.

P.S. I asked moderator Lawrence first before I made this post. I didn't want to take anything away from Pipes and Tobacco magazine and I'm certainly not shilling for the GKCPC, although they just might be one of the best and most active pipe clubs in the U.S. I did receive his blessing.

Can you prove you received his blessing? :nana:
Just kidding. Thanks for posting this. I was talking to Premal the other day about his entry. I have not picked up this issue of P&T so its nice to see all of entries. Cool newsletter to boot.

Dave is an all-around good guy, no doubt. I'm lucky enough to live close to him, and he has become a good friend in the past year.

I've also had the chance to see several of his pipes as he was working on them and after they were finished, and he definitely has a natural talent for pipe making! If you haven't seen it, look on here for the thread about his USMC pipe, it is pretty amazing.

(Of course, I have to say those nice things, since I am about to meet him for pipe club, and he has lots of goodies today...)

J/K Dave!

He keeps it pretty updated with stuff he is working on, etc...

Thanks guys, I had fun entering the contest and I learned a lot making that pipe. I've still got things to learn, but that is part of the fun. I'm currently working on a pipe for one of our beloved members and will post pics when it is done. And you will be able to see the whole process in pics from the block to the pipe on my Facebook page. I got my hard copy of the Pipes and Tobacco magazine just in time for pipe club last night. It was pretty cool to see my pipe laying out on the table with all of the other pipes by some fabulous carvers. I'm really digging Micah Cryder's work.
