I like BBF but I enjoy FVF a little more. Harris gifted me a little 2006 BBF and it was like 2x better than the tin I got from this years stock. Funny how a little age and growing conditions can make such a difference in the smoke.

Maybe I should elaborate a little more...its not that I don't get it, not that I only taste ash, no tounge bite, nadda. The flavor I got from it, was lacking, it did have a big flavor but its lacking in the flavor I'm looking for. It is a fresh tin, I'm not giving up, I have it jarred and will try it again in a year or so, I do understand it wont be at its peak in only a year but it will have changed, hopefully.

The super sweet va isn't what I like, its the grassy, earthy, deep va flavor I like. I don't smoke aros, rarely any english, I stick mostly with va and vapers...I do like the whole caramely note that i.e. FVF takes on, yes I do keep going back to FVF because in my opinion that is what a va should be. I didnt say this stuff reaks or I'm throwing it, just that it is a dissapointment to me. I was hoping for something like a good aged FVF, because you guys regularly compare the two, thats not at all what BBF is. I even got a bad remark on the room note, something about my 17 yr olds atheletics locker. I've not given up, yet.

I don't think BBF will ever provide that, mate. BBF is a mellow, caramelly, creamy, sweet blend. Like a creme brulee. Earthy VA blends often contain a little Perique, maybe some Dark Fired and a little Burley.
Maybe see if you like Dunhill Flake (cookie, ginger, tarry, tart, earth, hay),

or G.L. Pease's Cumberland (earthy, fruity, little spice, sweet, nutty) fits the bill?
Even BBF's brother Full Virginia Flake kind of fits that description. Maybe Medium Virginia Flake even more so.
The other one that comes to mind is MacBaren's Virginia No. 1 blend (honey, woodsy, earthy, sweet, old hay).

I have been stockpiling BBF for many years. I now only smoke 5 year old. Smooth, subtle, and very satisfying.

I just got into Virginia tobaccos after disliking them forever. My current faves are FVF, McClelland 5100, and Sterling Old Dominion. The only way I could enjoy them was in a clean dedicated pipe, and with a clean palate. Believe it or not, my Dr. Grabow Royalton is excellent for Virginia's, and I have been smoking FVF in a Brigham pot.
