Take your time and experiment. Figure out what works for you.

As far as blends, most of what's available is fair to excellent quality tobacco. If it wasn't, I doubt a manufacturer would invest time and money manufacturing it. If you don't enjoy it, move on to something else. With the myriad blends available today, there's bound to be something that'll satisfy you. Not everybody enjoys the same food, liquor, wine, milkshakes, beef jerky, whatever. Same with tobacco.

Take what you read here with a grain of salt... or in some cases a railcar full.

Good luck in your trials! It will get better- or at least different! :)

Please put your location in your Profile, as people are forgetful.
Why:
That will save questions in the future as to where you live when you later mention local stores, weather, tobacco prices, availability, regulations, location of photos, wildfires, air quality, etc. In many instances that saves time for those who read your posts. It cuts down on posts or PMs asking where you are.
How:
Under your avatar, (top right, left most of three symbols) you choose "Account Details", which brings up "My Account". "My Location" is halfway down. Whatever you're comfortable with- town, city, county, state. province, etc.

It's not only about smell. It's for taste and the experience in general. But I don't like a poor smell especially as I smoke in a shop. What are some more natural tobaccos?
Peterson Deluxe Navy Rolls, Peterson Nightcap should get you started on some quality.

The MacBarens BROBS suggests are actually very good for what they are.

Don't use the room note as a guide, it'll be bad to worse, some of the tastiest blends smell like burning tires to anyone other than the smoker, sadly, like Toscano cigars (most cigars in fact).

On the other hand, with 7 bowls in pipe smoking you're not even at the start, it's annoying but it's also a fact that it takes time to appreciate pipe tobacco, often years. You can read JimInks's reviews and not believe he actually tastes what he says he tastes...but he does...the rest of us taste maybe 50% of what's written on a good day, 70% on a great day! Also, get a proper pipe, you an get a proper cob from Missouri Meerschaum (MM). I made a cob pipe myself years back from a supermarket corn cob that I actually dried for a year. It semi worked to smoke tobacco in but tasted totally shit, life's too short when a very good tobacco smoking instrument can be had from MM for $15-20.

Your right, I just need to get a decent pipe. I seen a bunch of people make them and say they are great, yet again, there's a bunch of stuff like that and I find it untrue. This may also be the case

C&D autumn evening is a love/hate on this board, but it's my go-to when I need a room pleasing smoke. I like it. Smells like Ohio maple syrup.

Aromatics, like the ones you're smoking, are actually the hardest of all blends to really enjoy, they are the least forgiving for a beginner and often, the cheaper ones you find in a drugstore are subpar tobacco. Exceptions are Carter Hall, Granger, Sir Walter Raleigh. All those have pretty nice room notes, too.

I suggest you try an English blend, anything with Latakia listed as an ingredient, just so you can see some straight tobacco flavor. Your girlfriend will most likely hate the room note, but you'll get a good experience of what pipe blends can be.

Order a MM corn cob, they're cheap as hell and even if your home made pipe is fine, having another around is beneficial. And, when you order it, order some small samples (1 or 2 oz each) of a variety of blends from English to aromatic. Finding what you like, and letting what you like change, is a huge part of the fun of smoking a pipe.

Visiting a shop would be great, too. Grab a tin of something special.

You’re smoking horrible ass tobacco

I have not smoked this blend, but that may be the case, crappy tabac.

Remember all these things will effect possibly to some degree or another tastes and smells.

Tabac moisture
Tabac packing
To much fire/heavy lighting (strong flame)
Smoking cadence
Drying out pipes after smoking

You just have to do a lot of experimenting to find your own way, so take it slow and easy and enjoy!

Also, not sure if anyone mentioned this, but some blends taste better in different pipes. You only mentioned Cobs?

There are certainly those that only smoke Cobs. But you’ll never know unless you try Briar, Clay, and Meerschaum too, to also see what suits you best.

If you are also starting out, sometimes Aromatics aren’t the way to go, especially if you are after good quality tasting tobacco, Aros can be really bland at times.

Well, it’s hard to screw up a pipe. Material with a hole in each end…

Unless you pulled that cob out of a yard where pigs wallow, then there’s probably nothing wrong with it.

Don’t get caught up with how much a pipe costs or who made it. They all function pretty much the same, albeit with certain subtleties, which at this point in the game you are probably not experienced enough to notice anyway.

If I’m sitting around with a group of people, and I’m smoking a pipe, the conversation isn’t generally about who made my pipe, or how much I spent on it.

To put it perspective, you don’t need to buy an authentic 1959 Les Paul when a $99 Fender Squire will suffice for learning to play the guitar. A 50 year old bottle of Scotch tastes the same from a Solo cup as it does from a Tiffany Lead Crystal glass…

Well, I visited the pipe shop, picked up a used molesworth pipe(probably paid too much, but oh well) along with 4 of their house blends, some Macbaren vanilla and a can of Peterson flake

I can definatly taste difference in the tobaccos now, and the taste of the old ones changed. I tried and sampled all of them, probably not the best method bit seemed to work. The Peterson flake had the best flavor . The house blend they called Lane ll-7 was the best smelling. The Macbaren vanilla creme was okay. I tried a few others. My taste seem to change almost instantly. I don't know if it's the pipe, or if by smoking multiple different kinds it gave me a place to start. I mixed all the leftovers together for the hell of it and it taste great with my girlfriend saying that it smelled exactly like her grandfather's pipe. Go figure. I'm going to spend some time on each blend sepperatly in the future and hopefully refine my taste for each.

This pipe definatly smokes differently. Maybe because the stem hole diameter is smaller. The bowl is also much wider than my cob. Who knows.

Thanks for everyone's help! I don't think this is the end of searching but atleast a great start

No not really.

It's a perfectly good blend. Brobs just has an issue with goopy blends.

Some of us enjoy them though. Sutliff spiced rum is one of my favorites as well as Molto Dolce.

Now that I think about it, if a blend doesn't include "Strawberry Shortcake's Panties" in its description Brobs probably isn't into it.

Keep branching out like you are and you'll find lots of different blends you'll enjoy. You may even find that Vanilla Custard becomes that old friend you occasionally visit and always enjoy.
