In the semi-rural NorthEastern USA
one scenario I'll do that. When I'am drinking or something similar with friends who smoke cigs. So when they step out for a smoke I'll take the pipe and get a few 20 minute sessions in. Mainly cause in those scenarios people will smoke two or three cigs. Otherwise I'll not do that. If I have to stop a bowl I'd rather dump it and start over. Oh or if I am running out to a shop and get there in the middle of the pipe. I'll let it go out and then light it for the return trip. Though one time I did forget and left the pipe in while shopping. No one seemed to notice either.

I prefer to finish the bowl. I never purposely set one down to smoke later. And if I ever need to put one down, I only finish the pipe later, just so I can refill it again, and to keep the cake going good. I don't like the taste of a stale partially smoked bowl.

I like it when I leave enough in a pipe bowl for the next day and I get that first smoke without having to decide which pipe or which bowl and without packing a pipe. It's as if an imaginary house staff had fixed it up for me.

I only do this rarely when outside factors force it. For me it only works well with Virginia blends.

Sometimes I’ll pack the night before for an early morning bowl. You’re right, it’s like having a pipe valet. Jeeves has great taste in tobacco. ;)

By late afternoon, I've usually got 3-4 unfinished bowls in the hopper. That's what I smoke during the pre-dinner rush. I rarely leave any overnight, not on purpose anyway.

My morning bowl and evening bowl are in a full size pipe. 30-40 minutes for me. My mid day bowls are in my minuscule ropp etudiant. That poor ropp sees some use. I personally have never left a bowl longer than a few hours. Usually don’t enjoy it as much.
