Trying to work a pipe into the general rush of life, I've decided that often smoking a bowl in three or more sittings or standings is sometimes the best. I don't find that letting a bowl go cold and then relighting three, six, twelve hours later diminishes the bowl at all. I'd much prefer to smoke in distinct sessions where I complete a bowl or bowls, but that often isn't possible, and this is better than no pipe at all. Do you do this? Or if not, could you?

I gravitate towards smaller bowls for just that reason. While I agree that smoking the same bowl two or three times doesn't seem to effect the tobacco, and I do that on occasion. For me the competition of a bowl in one sitting is a great joy to me. That 30 minutes or more of no interruptions is a big part of pipe smoking for me. As you have said that is not always possible. Smaller bowled pipes give me the satisfaction of completing a bowl in a shorter time.

Seems to work for me reliably, though as stated above, works better for blends that do not prominently feature Latakia. If the Latakia is condimental (say, Presbyterian or Orcilla), it's no problem, but a stout English or Balkan and it's almost like the bowl itself needs to be warm to allow the Latakia to do its thing.

Could all be in my head.

I only really get chance for one bowl a day and I have to make time for that. I couldn't have a bowl "on the go" I'd just do nothing but think about it to an end that I'd either have to smoke it and it would probably be smoked to quickly as I hadn't really had the time to smoke it or throw it away. None of them are fun for me. Either I have the time for a bowl from start to finish or I haven't and for me I'd rather miss a day or two of piping to make sure that when I do smoke, I enjoy it as much as I can.

What ^^ Brut said ^^ Except I would never use the term "Piping"..... puffy

Smoking a pipe is all about the ritual and relaxation for me. I go to the man cave, settle into my favorite La Z Boy and watch sailing videos on YouTube.

All in one stint or nothing for this pipe smoker...

I myself won't fire a bowl up unless I have time to finish it. That being said, there isn't much else I am doing anyway, so I usually always have the time. puffy puffy puffy
I say that every time I sit down with a pipe, but then the wife or kids have other ideas! It never fails.
If I want a completely uninterrupted bowl I have to be working on knives in the shop. They usually don’t pester me then. Either that or I have to get up early or stay up late, while they’re in bed.
I don’t mind the interruptions, though. That’s just life with small kids. The good thing about a pipe though, is that it can be put down, and then finished later without much consequence to the flavor. I can’t do that with cigars.

I would say that at least 80% of my pipesmoking is done like that. Some blends benefit, others suffer, but overall I find them just as pleasurable in several sittings.

Currently I am the at home parent of my extremely active 5-year old son with cerebral palsy, and also have a large elderly dog that has started to have incontinence issues, so there is very little chance of me finishing even a small bowl uninterrupted unless it is late at night or on the weekend.

I do it all the time. Though one in five I finish in one shot.

I like to finish a bowl when I sit down to smoke. I don't mind if it goes out and I decide to finish it later but then it always seems as if I'd rather just pack a fresh bowl anyhow. I'll still finish the half bowl, but at then end I always think huh, should have finished it the first go and packed another.
