Separated Tenon

Picked up a GBD Ellipse Billiard for a steal off ebay, first real restoration job I've undertaken. The pipe as a whole was in pretty good condition, so I went to work on the stummel first, the only real issue I found with the wood is after a thorough reaming and cleaning with Murphy's Oil Soap there was two deep scorch marks on the rim that no amount of scrubbing would remove, so went to work with some 240 grit sandpaper and the ball end of a ball-peen hammer to keep the roundness and that worked pretty good. Finished the pipe with micromesh pads and buffed with Decatur wax and the palm of my hand. (Thanks @sablebrush52) The stummel turnd out beautiful and I am VERY happy. The stem is not in horrible shape, oxidation is manageable, there is some teeth chatter that I will try pulling out with a heat gun and a minor chip on the button that I may or may not try to fix with epoxy. In the process of taking the steam in and out, the tenon separated from the stem! The fit is real tight! So my question is... how to fix?

Does the tenon insert into the stem? You can secure it with a bit of glue, which is how it was originally secured.

Most of these fixes don't hold up long term. Fills tend to fall off without warning.

Quick question, I am apprehensive about using a lighter so is a hair dryer hot enough to pull teeth chatter out of vulcanite or is a heat gun a better option?

In one of the review pictures a guy actually used it on a vulcanite stem lol!

I've used that particular glue from Starbond and it has worked fairly well. It takes quite a while to dry (I leave it for a full day) and usually needs more than one round of application. I've not tried using an accelerator, but that might greatly shorten the dry time. I use a file, then 400, 600, 800, 1000 sandpaper and then the whole range of micromesh pads from 1500 to 12000. Even when it works well, there is usually a thin, barely visible line around the edge of the patch. But overall I've been quite pleased.

I will see how she tastes next weekend, probably start out with Rattrays Red rapparee. Now off to search the interweb for more pipes to restore LOL!

Thank you very much! To tell you the truth I bid on this on a whim not thinking I would win it and ended up getting it for a steal, wasn't really too keen on the brass accents, but after cleaning it up it's really growing on me and I love the grain!

I’m grateful I found how much I like bringing back old pipes early on, I guess it started with my father pre-inheriting me a dozen or so that needed tlc to begin my foray into pipes. Now I have to restrain myself from excessively grabbing more estates (I’m running about one a month) like most have to restrain from going into hawk over new pipes.
