I love the semi-colon. I like hyphens too. I just go by feel; I use the semi-colon for dramatic pause. And only use commas when I'm listing off a bunch of stuff.

what gets me more is apostrophes that don't belong. "its" and "it's," specifically. i know someone who always types "it's." one of the few people i can correct about such things. i tell her "you wouldn't write hi's instead of his, or her's instead of hers, would you?"
but what bothers me most is when i'm listening to a news program and hear rampant errors in grammar and word usage.

LOL chopz! I had somebody actually correct me in the comment section of my blog on the correct usage of it's vs its. At least on my blog I can fix errors anytime. Here once the 45 minute edit window closes that's it. I've always cared enough to at least try to do right on the internet. I'm not tight on grammer and all the usage rules so I tend to live and let live but misspellings really irritate me.

My wife is in her second year of a Masters of Fine Arts in Poetry; she loves the proper use of punctuation. I am still unsure if that is correct usage of a semi-colon and I took AP English in High School.
