Seeking UK Tobacco Recommendations

I asked a friend of mine to purchase some pipe tobacco while he was in Dublin. Although he's not a smoker, he reported that the tins he could find at Peterson of Dublin happened to be from Cornell & Diehl. Each tin cost €50, and the seller advised considering Spain or Italy for future purchases due to the high prices in Ireland. I hadn't realized it would be so difficult to find pipe tobacco in Ireland, especially at the renowned Peterson's Dublin store. Surprisingly, my friend mentioned that they weren't even selling Peterson tobaccos and that there were plans to sell the store building. On a different note, another friend will be visiting the UK in November, and I hope to buy some pipe tobacco online for him to return. Could you recommend a reliable UK based website that sells quality pipe tobacco and offers fast shipping?

That is odd they don’t sell Peterson tobacco at the Peterson store, I’d be curious on why not…. Maybe your friend could go to a physical store in the UK? I‘ve heard Gawith and Hoggarth are well priced there, in England, I’m sure someone will chime in here. I recommend their product.

I have been more lucky 100 miles away, in Belfast (UK). But even there G&H was hard to get because of poor supply, not sure what's going on with G&H, even their swiss distributor has run out of stock.

I have been more lucky 100 miles away, in Belfast (UK). But even there G&H was hard to get because of poor supply, not sure what's going on with G&H, even their swiss distributor has run out of stock.

Thank you all for the replies! I'm curious about the issues surrounding stock shortages and inflated prices. My friend was told that the high costs are primarily due to steep taxes.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I believe Laudisi owns Peterson Pipes while STG owns the Peterson tobacco brand. Peterson tobacco is made in Denmark, at least the couple of tins I have are labelled that way from 2019.

If you are in London there was/is a good pipe and tobacco shop in Leaden Hall Market near Liverpool Street Station which carries a fair selection of 'Good Sh*t' but the prices are very high compared to down here in the Colonies!

We don't have a Swiss distributor so not a case of anyone going out of stock, we just don't sell to there. The former Swiss distributor refused to pay invoices for product received and so there is ongoing debt collection.

Distribution to Ireland, even northern Ireland is difficult due to Brexit and the UK/EU not knowing how to deal with the issues this created for trade with Ireland.

Uk prices are down to the duty the UK government puts on every budget - that's usually an additional 2 - 12% on tobacco each and every year.

GQ, smoke-king, black swan shoppe are all good, but I am not sure they send abroad.

Way around this problem is sending to a friend, if you have one in the UK, or ordering to your hotel if you’re travelling (let them know ahead of time, some fast check-in/out hotels like Premier Inn won’t accept/hold packages, most old school hotels will), or ordering to your office, if you work for a UK firm (may get a scolding from the office manager “you know this is not good for you?” to which you can reply “I’m an adult and not breaking any laws, thanks!”). I’ve done all of the above

+1 That is always safer. I try not to cross customs borders with tobacco. Its just asking for problems.

My two goto online retailers are Smoke-King in Yorkshire and My Smoking Shop in Preston. Order by 3pm, delivered next day usually. Smoke-King always bundle a little round chocolate mint, MSS often throw in a 3-pack of cigarillos. If there's any pipe tobacco they don't have between them, it ain't available in the UK, end of.
