If anyone spies a nice briar from 1969, please share it with me.
As an over-enthusiastic noob, I am not yet particular to make or style.
I just know what I like when I see it (somewhat  )
I've been eyeballing a lot of Bulldogs and Rhodesians, so bonus points for one of that sort.
Thanks!
Jay :nana:

Some years are easier than others to find. I think you have a pretty good chance at 1969. It took me a long time to find a 1952 I wanted. Good luck with your search.

I had two '74s drop in my lap in as many months. Keep your eyes open, and you're sure to find one.

Just be glad you weren't born in 1946. The war was just over. The briar supply had not recovered. Pipes exist, but not so many and not so good. It was not a vintage year. Luckily for me, I'm not a Dunhill guy. If I had the money, I'd go for Ferndowns, Ashtons, and for that matter Ser Jacopo; in fact I have two of those brands, by the skin of my teeth. But a 1946 Dunhill is an odd lot item; if someone wanted one, I'd advise them to only buy one in person. Preferably take someone with expertise comparable to foggy mountain with you.

As a not-Dunhill, not-birth-year-pipe-person, when people are talking "birth year pipe" they generally mean Dunhill, right? Or no?

Hmmm I'm loving that 599 but I don't see the year on the nomenclature picture. What am I missing?
Anyone ever bought from him before?

Also what do you think is the different color along the top? Is that from the cake?

pipesmokingtom, yes, the birth year quest is usually associated with Dunhills for about three reasons. Dunhill is a brand that can actually be traced to a specific year of production in most cases, whereas with many other brands, even good ones, this is not as clear. Second, the pricing on Dunhills makes birth year an excuse for people who don't buy them otherwise to break for a Dunhill. And finally, because of the first two reasons, people tend not to go into a quest for other birth year pipes. You might be able to pin down a year for other brands. To my delight, Luciano actually stamped their pipes with the year of production, but I think Luciano has suspended business.

C'mon Tex. I see nothing but upside here.
If ya get it and SWMBO doesn't blow a gasket, Score! Ya got yer Birth Year Dunny.
If, however she strips a gear and commits justifiable homicide. Well then Ya got yer Celebration of Life Dunny.
