Seattle Space Needle

I spent half the day as a tourist. I have a bunch of pics, but these are just of the Space Needle and from the Space Needle, which is probably the most iconic Seattle landmark.
It was built for the 1962 World's Fair and it was predicted that all the buildings in downtowns would look like this by now.

I was there for the 1962 World's Fair as a young man and visited it

frequently during the quarter century that I lived in Seattle. In it's

early days, there was a restaurant where one could dine and get a rotating

panoramic view of the city. Good stuff!

It is the worlds largest pipe tamper.

@Fred: The space needle still has a rotating restaurant. As expected though, it is overpriced and not that great of food.

You know, a pipe tamper like that, in brass or pewter, might just be a big seller.

They do sell miniature space needles at the space needle gift shop. I don't recall all that well, but I think they might be a bit on the large side for a tamper.

I'll have to take a closer look next time a family member comes to visit and want to see the needle.

It's kind of a fog. It's the typical Seattle mist.
It doesn't really rain here. It mists. I got wet taking those photos.
The top photo is "as is" out of the camera. The 2nd photo I hit "Auto Levels" for the light and dark tones in Photoshop, but I actually like the uncorrected one better.

I'm not surprised that the food is overpriced and nothing to write home

about from the restaurant. Yes Kevin, the misting is a regular feature

in the Pacific Northwest. It does rain as well... On average there's

about 30 days of clear sunlight a year - but the panoramic view of the

surrounding mountains will stay with you for a long time. I don't suppose

that the smoky coffee houses are still around. It used to be a good place

to wander around in Pipe & Cigar shops in many areas of the city.
