I know absolutely diddly squat about the movie industry.

What is a "Post Production Script "?

I'm asking because I recently purchased a book by one of my favorite authors that is signed by the author. The book was made into a movie and an original post production script is available for sale but I'd like to know more before buying it.

You're talking about "The Man in Grey," aren't you? I watched that again the other night (saw it the first time years ago). Calvert is beautiful!
I think "Post production" script is what it says: a script written up or printed after the filming is over. I think they do them because many times a movie deviates from the original script. The post production script would match the movie. I could be wrong though.

From Wikipedia:

"In 1943 the novel was adapted into a film by Gainsborough Pictures directed by Leslie Arliss and starring James Mason in the title role as well as Margaret Lockwood, Phyllis Calvert and Stewart Granger. The film was a major commercial and critical success and was the first of the series of Gainsborough melodramas which dominated the British box office during the later years of the war during the immediate post war years."
Post production scripts are usually the most accurate version of a script that matches what you see on film and are produced after shooting scripts and incorporate changes to dialogue, etc. that may have been made during shooting.

The dealer that has the script you want is highly reputable and often has great material. I regret not buying a limited edition book that Kevin worked on that features gorgeous copies of first editions that were made into films.

Indeed I am.

Interesting. So you could have a novel, the last draft of a pre-production script, and a post-production script assumed to be transcribed accurately from the film, none of which accounts for six or eight or more drafts by the the novelist, and similar re-writes in the pre-production script.

Ah, the malleability of art. Then movies are re-made from the script up.

When literature was oral, the "script" changed every time the story or poem was recited, sort of like family stories that are told today which are never written down and change with each teller and telling.

When I was a kid, lots of the books I received as birthday/Christmas gifts were the novelizations of movies. Quite often, they were based on the original screenplay so that the novel could come out as the same time as the movie (if not slightly before.) I found it fascinating to compare the two, as I could often find clarifying details or even whole scenes that were trimmed from the final movie. Of course, sometimes these novels were also sanitized a bit for younger readers, so there was plenty to appreciate in either form. :)

That is incredible!

I have a published copy of the script for "It's A Wonderful Life", but heck, anyone could probably still find and buy a copy, so it's not like it's all that special, but it is to me!

You would really have something to treasure!
