Bigpond, while I don't have a Piersel but I have two pipes with metal tube reinforced shanks and I find it to be of no issue at all.

I would be curious to know if you're finding more moisture in the pipe when smoking old, familiar blends. Lovely pipe. I've had her stuff on my radar for a while now but have been unsure about the impact of the medical tubing. I like the amber bot best too. Oh, let me know what tamper works best for you with a pipe this narrow. I have a pipe 20% wider which only takes a pipe nail.
My ancient Czech tool works just fine. So far, no gurgles. Metal tubing is used a lot on bamboo shanks and has been for years. On my next pipe I will likely opt for a slightly wider chamber. But this one is working well for me. I'll have to try out some of my other blends to be able to tell you if they develop more moisture. I inaugurated the pipe with Stonehaven, a notoriously fickle smoke, and it worked quite well.

Thanks for the comments re:tubing. Let us know how things work out once you have some more time in with the pipe. It's a nice change of pace from the modern trend of bigger and bigger. Actually, it reminds me of a pipe I should have bought from Asquith, narrow bowl, thick walls purpose built for flakes. I'm still looking for the perfect flake pipe (aren't we all?).

Congratulations to both Jesse & Scottie: Great idea, beautifully executed. There definitely aren't enough cased pipes being made anymore, and I'm very happy to see this one added to the world's supply.
As for the metal tube, I have experience with the same setup on an Adam Davidson I commissioned. The bamboo shank was so thin Adam was seriously worried he was going to drill through it; more capellini than spaghetti. It smokes very well, however, with no moisture at all.
As for Jesse being "horrible to work with", that's no news to anyone on this forum. He's a notorious pain in the ass, and given the number of attorneys who lurk here I suggest you think about legal redress. I'm sure at least a few of them would take it on pro bono.

The pipe is beautiful, and I love the creativity of having different color stems, and the carry case. What a super cool accoutrement.
Here's my Scottie billiard that I bought from her at the KC show last year.

Great pipe guys! I love the thick walls and beautiful lines of the bowl, while the shank gives balance and elegance.

That is a beautiful pipe...congrats!
Scottie runs a metal tube through the length of the stem to add structural strength
I noticed one other question on this but I'm still curious if a metal tube running the length of the stem affects the taste while smoking. Can you pickup any difference in taste at all while smoking a pipe with a metal lined stem?

Hi Bernie:
As I mentioned my pipe wasn't made by Scottie, but it does have a metal tube and I've never noticed any taste difference at all.

I also have a Ewe Jopp with a very thin stem that has a metal tube in it.
I notice no difference at all.
PS. Love the shape and the design, but the multi-color stems are not my cup of tea.
Hey, different strokes.
Enjoy

The answer to this is an unequivocal "no" from all I've been able to gather on the subject. Which is important to me since a stainless steel liner is essential to a long-lasting shank repair or splice, and I get sent many of them. (I've lost count)
In virtually every case, smokers are made uneasy by the idea---it just feels cold and condensation-inducing at an intuitive level, somehow---and are then amazed to discover the presence of a stainless tube is undetectable. No taste or moisture change at all, plus they're delighted by the ease of cleaning. Count tobacco taste savant extraordinaire Greg Pease among the pleasantly surprised. (He decided to get to the bottom of the issue a few years ago, and came away a believer.) He rather likes the idea of what's happening in the tobacco chamber being transmitted to your mouth in in an entirely neutral fashion, in fact.
Bottom line, no worries. Scottie knows what she's doing. :D

The steel shank reinforcement is entirely neutral. Just for giggles I loaded the chamber with 1983 McCranie's Red Ribbon, a very, very moist tobacco, and fired her up. Smoked to the bottom and no gurgle, just an enjoyable smoke. And keeping the shank clean is easy, mucho easier than cleaning briar. Plus, no mortise to go sour on you down the road. I like this pipe.

I like the idea of the various color stems, even the yellow one, on such an imaginative and unique pipe. It adds another step in the ritual of selecting tobacco, pipe ... and stem!
Kevin, that is an amazing billiard, dazzling grain on such a robust classic shape. It really bolsters the grand tradition of the billiard. 'Want to pack that baby and fire up some full-strength English.

What a wonderful cased pipe and idea this was for the multiple stems. Thanks for sharing the photos and descriptions. I saw that Scottie was making something similar for the BoB forum and would've jumped on board for one but the timing wasn't right unfortunately. I'm sure this will get Scottie busy in the future, this is a very attractive, well made pencil shank briar. Congrats to both on a fine accomplishment.

Saw some of Scotties work in KC- it's great stuff!

If I'm not mistaken, I think Tom Eltang uses the same technique with a full length metal stem on bamboo...Lately, I've been using carbon fiber tubing on some really thin shanks for tenons and full length liners- that also works very well...(picked that one up from Joao Reis)
