Well everyone what do you think? Just scored this one today. I'm loving the detail in the hand and the sleeve. Paid $157.00 for it. Think I overpaid?

I'm thinking about it. I'm still pretty new to meerschaums and collecting them, so I was curious what is the best way to collect info on these pipes as far as who made them, age and so on.

That's an intriguing old meer...the sleeve is especially impressive. Great find...thanks for posting the pics.

I watched that one. It's not really what I like so I didn't bid. But I don't think you overpaid.

There's no info to be had on those. You just have to look at a lot of old pipes and study what dated material you can find.

Based on my experience with old pipes and the ads and catalog pages I've collected and seen online, I think that pipe dates to around 1900 +/- 15. The egg in hand style is common. There are always a few on eBay in decent condition. But the walnut type bowl and the cuff detail make that pipe pretty unique. I've never seen another exactly like it. Plus it looks to be in nice shape with good color. It's probably Turkish Meerschaum.

Clean it up a bit and I think you'd have no problem making your money back. Maybe a tidy profit.
