A gizmo that was popular a many decades ago that supposedly helped with moisture management. I have several older pipes that sprout these. More of a pain than a merit IMO.

System standards do have a condenser, that’s why they have a necked down portion on the end of the tenon. That smaller diameter section is the condenser. View attachment 219948

Pre WWII KW’s are very collectible, and there are many who collect them. Most KW collectors won’t touch a clipped pipe. Having said that, not all KW’s have value, later KW’s don’t sell for much, common shapes don’t sell for much.

My advice to you would be this, clipping the stinger off a KW won’t really change anything, it’s still gonna be an aluminum screw fitment with a tight draw that you can’t get a pipe cleaner through.

Once you figure out that clipping the stinger didn’t help and it smokes even worse without it and still won’t pass a cleaner you will have a pipe that might have been worth $20-40 is now worth $0 to anyone.

If you’ve made the decision that a stinger is just against everything you as pipe smoker stand for, then put it on eBay, make few bucks and buy some tobacco.

Ultimately it is your pipe, you can do what you wish with it.
I have just received a letter from distant Relative, thank you for prompting me to write to her, she worked for Peterson's in Dublin for 60 years, She is Deaf now so we only communicate by mail. I did mention to Her, what is the narrow bit on the end of the Stem ? it is called the stem extension, this was for after years the stem would bottom out and you trimmed it down, for very wet smokers you also trimmed it down, now the aluminium extension on the Deluxe was designed to be removed over time if it bottomed out or if a wet smoker was getting gurgling or over time, remove it, you are welcome to reach out to Peterson, I have, and I thank you again, I will be going out to Dublin in August to visit my Irish relatives and to pop in to Petersons and meet my old Friends.
